The antidepressant effect of Gastrodiae Rhizoma has been demonstrated in various animal models; its antidepressant activity may be related to its ability to modulate monoamines as well as its antioxidant activity, GABAergic regulation, BDNF modulation, neuroprotection, and anti-inflammatory activity.

Rhizoma Gastrodiae, also known as Tianma, is a traditional Chinese herb that has many pharmacological effects, including:
